What is Parish Nursing?
Parish Nursing is a blend of nursing and faith. Parish nurses minister through a faith community of individuals and families, using health education and spiritual resources to promote wellness of body, mind and spirit. Each parish nurse develops a practice in response to the unique needs and primary issues of each congregation and its community across the span of life.
Parish nurses do not replace any health care services. They are not a substitute for pastoral care, medical care, community health nursing or social agencies, but rather work in partnership with individuals who provide these services.
What training does a parish nurse have?
Parish nurses are registered nurses with a current state licensure who are committed to the healing mission of the church and have attended an endorsed Parish Nurse Preparation Course.
Mostly all of the Parish Nurses in the Arrowhead have been trained through the PN Course at Concordia College, Moorhead – here is the link for more information on that program:

What are the functions of the Parish Nurse role?
There are 7 roles of the Parish Nurse:
1. Integrator of Faith and Health
2. Health Advocate
3. Health Educator
4. Personal Health Counselor
5. Facilitator/Trainer of Volunteers
6. Referral Agent
7. Developer of Support Groups.
These functions are addressed in the Scope and Standards of Practice for
the Faith Community Nurse.
The mission of Parish Nursing:
To challenge the nursing profession to reclaim the spiritual dimensions of
nursing care.
To challenge the health care system to provide whole person care.
To challenge the faith community to revitalize its healing mission.
The
